Geographic Scope

Pachamama has historically supported the conservation of the central and southern Ecuadorian Amazon. Since 2017, the Alliance has expanded its actions to the entire Amazon of Ecuador and the northern Amazon of Peru through the Sacred Headwaters Initiative.

Fundación Pachamama

With more than 25 years of experience working with indigenous communities in the Amazon, Pachamama Alliance’s work emphasizes the recognition and respect of human rights and the rights of nature.

Mission Statement

Their mission is to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

Work Scope

Pachamama's work focuses on: strengthening indigenous communities and their rights, conservation of Amazon forests and basins, titling of ancestral lands of indigenous peoples, promotion of alternative territorial models, and development of management plans for the sustainable use of natural resources.

Based on these areas, its programming has the following pillars:

  • Indigenous organizations

  • Human rights and rights of nature

  • Ikiama Nukuri (maternal health program)

  • Forest economies

  • The Sacred Headwaters Initiative

  • Forests and climate change

Pachamama also aims to introduce innovative crops with low impact on the Amazon rainforest, experimenting on how to domesticate and rescue different species found in the region.
